STOP Weight Gain |

Picture yourself 10 years from now, and you are 20 pounds heavier! On average, we know this is what happens to young adults. If you want to prevent this from happening to you, the STOP Weight Gain program may be for you.

Who? |
This new program is aimed specifically at adults 18-35 years old. Both normal weight and overweight individuals will be eligible. |

What?
|
We will teach you ways to change your eating and your physical activity to help you control your weight.
|

| How?
|
YOU WILL BE ASSIGNED TO ONE OF TWO GROUPS RANDOMLY, OR BY CHANCE - MEANING YOU CAN'T PICK WHICH PROGRAM YOU WANT TO BE IN. THEREFORE, IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE, YOU MUST BE WILLING TO BE IN EITHER OF THE TWO PROGRAMS. |

Program 1 is a more traditional program. It focuses on making periodic larger changes in eating and exercise behavior, resulting in weight losses of approximately 5-10 pounds. But, we know that this approach to weight control doesn't work for everyone long-term. Program 2 focuses on making small changes in eating and exercise behavior; since these changes are small, they are easy to make and can be done forever. Both approaches teach healthy eating and exercise strategies and BOTH should STOP Weight Gain and even produce some weight loss. |

When? |
Orientations will begin in January, and treatment is scheduled to begin in mid to late February. The program will involve weekly group meetings for 8 weeks and then 2 monthly meetings. |
