Dr. Suzanne Phelan is an
Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown
Medical School. She earned Bachelor's degrees from the
University of Colorado and earned her Master's degree and
Ph.D. in Clinical and Health Psychology (2001) from MCP
Hahnemann University. She completed her internship in
Behavioral Medicine at Brown University. She was a
postdoctoral research fellow with Rena Wing, Ph.D., prior to
becoming a faculty member at Brown. Dr. Phelan's principal research is on the treatment of obesity by interventions that have included behavior modification and medications. She is Co-Principal Investigator of the National Weight Control Registry, which is an ongoing longitudinal study evaluating over 3,000 successful weight losers. Dr. Phelan is also conducting a 1-year investigation of the effects of a contingency-based behavioral treatment program for obesity. She has several publications and numerous professional presentations in the area of obesity.
